It's Time We Focused on Being Clinicians!
When Sudhir Sehrawat takes to the podium at the Pharmacy Show in October he will be urging fellow pharmacy contractors to embrace changes on healthcare reform and turn them into new profit streams.
Sudhir of Insync Healthcare Pharmacy in Cardiff won the C+D 2011 Community Pharmacist of the Year award for his ground-breaking partnership with a GP practice with a range of clinical and medicines services. Judges were impressed with Sudhir’s vision that started with a letter to North Cardiff Medical Centre, and led to him becoming involved in a host of innovative medicines management services in his community. “We need to forget about trying to be retailers and do what we’ve been trained to do – and that’s look after the clinical and medicines needs of our patients,” says Sudhir “There is plenty of scope for driving revenue through changing your focus to clinical and medicines work directly with patients – it is rewarding both financially and professionally. “There is plenty of opportunity for us pharmacy contractors out there, especially with the New Medicine Services, MURs and other screen and health check services. And with the shake-up in commissioning, I suspect more GP practices will turn to community pharmacy for some of their work on patient medication reviews. “We are a low-cost alternative and the best qualified professionals in primary care to do the job,” Sudhir added.
The C+D Awards judges said, “At a time when relationshipbuilding is crucial within the NHS, Sudhir has done an amazing job to integrate primary and secondary care by developing policies and medicines management services for the benefit of GPs, patients and pharmacy.” Insync Healthcare Pharmacy has been working in partnership with North Cardiff Medical Centre since 2008. Sudhir works in a collaborative style and aims to provide seamless integrated services for patients. The services provided to the GP practice has led to the pharmacy becoming truly integrated giving the pharmacist a unique position on the patient/healthcare interface. Sudhir has a positive attitude, good communication skills and a clear vision to promote pharmacists and the profession to other healthcare professionals.
