Medicines Detailing Zone Launched at Pharmacy Show 2010

As part of its ongoing investment and expansion, pharma and generics producers will now be able to detail medicines with medicines management teams and pharmacists in a new restricted area at the Pharmacy Show in October (10th & 11th – NEC Birmingham).

In response to direct feedback from attendees at last year’s show, the MEDICINES DETAILING ZONE has been created on the show floor which allows pharma companies a private area in which to meet pharmacists and prescribers to detail medicines face-to-face.

Entry to the Medicines Detailing Zone will be controlled and restricted to healthcare professionals only and for the first time in 2010, all pharmacists registered with the RPSGB will have their number displayed on their delegate badges which will gain them entry into the detailing zone.

Pharmacists will be able to use the new online appointment booking system, introduced into the registration process for the Pharmacy Show, to pre-book meetings with Pharma companies present in the MDZ. 

“We are actively promoting this to both pharmacists and to medicines management teams at the PCT level.  We’ve created this area as a direct result of feedback from pharmacists who want to factor detailing time with pharma reps during their visit to the two-day event and who have increasingly less time to see reps from pharma companies,” said Show Director, Michael Westcott. 

He added that the restricted area allowed pharma companies to use the area for educational purposes and remain compliant with ABPI regulations.

“It complements the pharmacists’  desire to improve their clinical knowledge in key specialist areas in light of taking on more commissioned services and to assist them in undertaking better quality MURs in key therapy areas,” added Westcott.
