Milburn heads heavyweight conference line-up

Former Labour health secretary Alan Milburn is likely to provide plenty of debate at this year’s C+D Keynote Conference – one of five conferences at this year’s show.

Milburn served for five years in Tony Blair’s Cabinet, firstly as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 1998 to 1999, and subsequently for four years as Secretary of State for Health until 2003, when he resigned, citing a lack of balance with his family life, before briefly rejoining it as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in order to manage Labour's 2005 successful re-election campaign.

HavinAlan Milburng maintained close links with pharmacy since his departure from government, including his current advisory role to the Lloydspharmacy group, Milburn is outspoken on healthcare issues and promises to raise a number of key issues at this year’s conference.

He will give his own perspective on the opportunities and challenges set out in the recent coalition white paper and promises to pull no punches at his address at the Pharmacy Show.

Following the white paper theme, Lloydspharmacy’s director of pharmacy, Andy Murdock identifies the opportunities and threats that pharmacy faces under the latest NHS revolution.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Duncan Rudkin, chief executive at the new regulator The General Pharmaceutical Council.  It will be one of his first major policy speeches since the transfer of power from the RPSGB at the end of September.  Delegates will be able to hear firsthand how life under the new regulator will change.

Also under the industry scrutiny as the RPSGB returns to its roots as the leadership body for pharmacists, will be its new chief executive Helen Gordon as she reveals how the Society will steer pharmacists to a more rewarding professional future.
