Supporting pharmacists to deliver earlier diagnosis for suspected bowel cancer patients
This session will equip pharmacists with an overview of colorectal cancer, its risk factors and red flag symptoms. The session will explore the barriers to seeking and gaining referral, and common lower GI medicines. The use of FIT in symptomatic patients within primary care and the bowel cancer screening programme as a route to diagnosis will be discussed, and Claire will also share support services that are available from Bowel Cancer UK.
- Delegates will gain an understanding of bowel cancer red flag symptoms and some of the common lower GI medicines patients may request
- Delegates will understand some of the barriers to seeking and gaining referral and learn about the use of FIT in symptomatic patients
- Delegates will learn about the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and about the importance of cancer care reviews
- Delegates will also learn about Lynch syndrome, an inherited genetic condition which predisposes to bowel cancer.
