This session provides an overview of how independent prescribing can be used to improve the management of menopause within community pharmacy, drawing on learning from the NHS Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing (IP) Pathfinder Programme and local women’s health models. It will explore the clinical pathway for menopause, including assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatments such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), alongside the application of NICE guidance and patient-centred consultation approaches. The overview will also highlight the system-wide benefits of pharmacist independent prescribing, including improving access to timely care, reducing pressure on general practice, and enabling integrated, neighbourhood-based services. Finally, it will outline key governance, safety, and workforce considerations to support safe, scalable implementation

    • 1) Building a sustainable pharmacy
GLP-1 services are fast becoming one of the biggest private service opportunities in community pharmacy, but strong patient demand does not automatically translate into a financially sustainable model. To succeed, pharmacies need to build services that are not only clinically safe and patient-centered, but also operationally efficient, commercially robust and capable of scaling over time. This session will explore what it really takes to move from consultation to cashflow — from designing the right patient journey and consultation model, to pricing effectively, improving conversion, supporting retention and ensuring appropriate governance. It will also examine the practical realities of delivering GLP-1 services in community pharmacy, including workflow, colleague capability, follow-up requirements and how to create a proposition that works for both patients and the business.

    • 3) Integrated care & neighbourhood health
Menopause is one of the most common health conditions encountered in practice, yet many healthcare professionals report feeling underprepared to support women experiencing symptoms. With increasing public awareness and demand for treatment, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to improve access to evidence-based menopause care and help reduce variation in patient outcomes. This session will provide a practical overview of menopause management, covering symptom recognition, diagnosis, treatment options, and the role of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Drawing on real-world experience from one of the UK's first pharmacist-led NHS menopause clinics, the presentation will explore common clinical challenges, patient concerns, and opportunities for pharmacists to take a more active role in supporting women's health. The session is designed to equip attendees with practical knowledge that can be immediately applied in community pharmacy, primary care, and other healthcare settings.
