PDA calls on all pharmacists to complete a Workplace Wellbeing & Culture Survey

PDA
PDA calls on all pharmacists to complete a Workplace Wellbeing & Culture Survey
The PDA is inviting pharmacists and trainees to complete a wellbeing survey that will gauge their experiences in the workplace and identify what support is required.

This is part of the PDA’s Workforce Wellbeing Strategy that was launched earlier this year to enhance the mental health, financial resilience, and overall wellbeing of pharmacists across the UK. It is clear to the PDA that pharmacists need more than the legal support that they provide when something has already gone wrong. This is why, since 2017, each year, the PDA donates £1 per member to Pharmacist Support, the profession’s charity. These donations now exceed £300k.

Earlier this year, the PDA committed to do even more with the introduction of a 5-year Workforce Wellbeing Strategy. The initiative will provide pharmacists with access to wellbeing resources, peer support networks, mental health training, financial resilience guidance, and engagement activities aimed at strengthening the workforce.

Since the initiative was launched earlier this year, the PDA has focused on rolling out an internal wellbeing programme, promoting a culture of wellbeing, support and leadership. This has so far included surveying staff and launching a series of online and in-person staff training events. Following the initial success of the programme, the PDA is now launching this external survey to see how best to support the wider profession.

The PDA’s approach is responsive and aims to address findings as they arise and tackle obstacles with proactive solutions. The PDA is committed to periodic reviews, using data and industry insights to assess its progress and adapt to emerging challenges.

The Workplace Wellbeing & Culture Survey will help the PDA to identify the more immediate obstacles that need to be prioritised.

Pharmacists and trainees can complete the survey here.

The survey will close on 12 October 2025.

PDA to deliver ‘Workforce Wellbeing’ session at the Pharmacy Show 2025

Taking place in the Professional Development & Careers Theatre on Sunday 12 October from 2.30 pm to 3 pm

The PDA will deliver a Workforce Wellbeing session at this year's Pharmacy Show. Here, PDA Director of Pharmacy Jay Badenhorst will explore what has driven the development of this strategy and explain how the PDA is committed to working alongside industry leaders, policymakers, and healthcare organisations to implement best practices and advocate for improved working conditions. Through strategic partnerships, educational programmes, and ongoing research, the PDA aims to drive meaningful change and create a resilient, well-supported workforce.

Jay said, “The PDA’s workforce wellbeing initiative embodies our commitment to doing even more to safeguard the mental health, wellbeing and financial resilience of every PDA member. The Workforce Wellbeing survey will give us a clearer idea of the issues facing the sector and how best to support the mental health and wellbeing of pharmacists. We aim to share some of the initial findings of the survey during our ‘Workforce Wellbeing’ session at the Pharmacy Show. The findings of the survey will allow us to cater specifically to areas of wellbeing that pharmacists feel affect them the most. The session will also allow us to delve deeper into our strategy and next steps.”
