Opening Eyes to Dry Eye - The Pharmacists Role in Identifying & Managing Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye disease and related eye conditions can be seen as sleeping giants within ocular healthcare. Increased triggers such as: environmental factors; lifestyle choices; and physical conditions are culminating in rising prevalence and whole new categories of patient. Yet Dry Eye Disease is significantly underdiagnosed. The Eyecare category is a growing opportunity for Pharmacies. The Pharmacist is often the patients’ first stop for advice and help in managing symptoms such as itchy, sore or irritated eyes. This talk will outline simple ways to help Pharmacists firstly recognise, then diagnose Dry Eye Disease. It will also give simple steps in helping patients manage their Dry Eye Disease.
