Senior Lecturer & Consultant Gastroenterologist, Sheffield Teaching Hospital, University of Sheffield
Dr Imran Aziz qualified in Medicine with Honours from the University of Sheffield in 2004 and subsequently undertook specialist training in general medicine and gastroenterology. During this time, Dr Aziz completed a postgraduate degree at the University of Sheffield, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in disorders of gut–brain interaction at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In late 2018, Dr Aziz was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist at the University of Sheffield. Alongside clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr Aziz serves as a Personal Academic Tutor and Associate Director of Student Affairs for the University of Sheffield MBChB medical curriculum. Dr Aziz has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research students through to thesis and viva completion, with research resulting in publications in high-impact journals. With international expertise in disorders of gut–brain interaction, Dr Aziz is a co-author of the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines on the management of irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. In 2021, Dr Aziz received the United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award, recognising promising clinician scientists across Europe. Dr Aziz also serves on the editorial board of Gastroenterology and is Section Editor for Gastro Digest (2022–2027).
