Imran Aziz
Consultant Gastroenterologist and Senior Lecturer,
University of Sheffield, UK
I qualified in Medicine with Honours in 2004 (Sheffield, UK) and undertook training in general medicine and gastroenterology until 2016. During this period, I also completed a postgraduate degree at the University of Sheffield, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in disorders of gut-brain interaction at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In late 2018, I was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist in Sheffield. I am a Personal Academic Tutor and an Associate Director of Student Affairs for the University of Sheffield MBChB medical curriculum. I have successfully supervised undergraduate BMedSci and postgraduate research students to thesis/viva completion, including publications of original articles in high-impact journals. In view of my international expertise, I am co-author on the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines on the management of irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. In 2021, I was awarded the United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award, a prize recognizing promising young clinician scientists across Europe. I serve on the editorial board of Gastroenterology, a leading international journal in the field of GI diseases, where I am section editor for Gastro Digest (2022-2027).
