Melanie Bryan
APTUK Scotland Professional Lead,
Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK
Mel started her career in pharmacy as a student Pharmacy Technician at her local NHS hospital in Dumfries and Galloway. After qualifying she became a rotational Pharmacy Technician with a strong passion for Aseptic Services. In 1999, she became the first Senior Pharmacy Technician for Aseptic Services at NHS Dumfries & Galloway (NHS D&G); this role eventually became a job share with the Lead Pharmacy Technician for NHS D&G. In 2007, she became the Lead Pharmacy Technician full-time, and her role has progressed significantly in the last 15 years. In 2019 she was successful in her application to become the Pharmacy Technician Scottish Clinical Leadership Fellow as part of NHS Education Scotland and, the then Scottish Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Rose Marie Parr, this was an amazing opportunity to experience how the Scottish Government, NHS and the wider pharmacy leadership collaborated. This experience gave her the confidence to further broaden her working scope taking up the Chair of the National Pharmacy Technicians Group in Scotland and applying for the Scottish Professional Lead for APTUK, which she enjoys immensely.
