Creating capacity: exploring the Community Pharmacy Practice Manager role
As community pharmacy's clinical role continues to grow, how can we create the capacity needed to realise its full potential?
This panel explores the emerging Community Pharmacy Practice Manager (CPPM) role, an operational leadership model inspired by the established GP practice manager role and adapted for community pharmacy. Designed to strengthen governance, compliance, business operations, and streamline service delivery, the CPPM role aims to create capacity within pharmacy teams and enable clinical staff to focus more of their time on patient-facing clinical care.
The session will consider how the CPPM role aligns with the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, including better use of skill mix and enabling healthcare professionals to work at the top of their licence.
Drawing on learning from a London pilot, panellists will also outline the bespoke training pathway developed to upskill non-clinical team members, share early insights into the potential impact of CPPMs, and explore the practical realities of implementation.
Whether you are a pharmacy owner, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, support team member or system leader, this session will provide practical learning, honest reflection and fresh thinking about how workforce innovation could help shape the future of community pharmacy.
