Community pharmacy prescribing: what we’ve learnt and preparing for rollout of national prescribing services
As community pharmacy prescribing moves from Pathfinder to national implementation, this session offers a unique opportunity to learn from one of the NHS's most significant pharmacy transformation programmes. Drawing on real-world experience from the NHS Community Pharmacy Prescribing Pathfinder Programme, attendees will gain practical insights into how prescribing in community pharmacy is improving access to care, enhancing patient outcomes, and supporting the wider primary care workforce.
The session will share learning and outcomes from the Pathfinder work delivered within the former Frimley Integrated Care Board footprint.
The presentation will explore the journey from concept to implementation, sharing key lessons on governance, clinical safety, workforce development, operational delivery and stakeholder engagement. Attendees will hear how community pharmacy prescribing has enabled patients to access timely care closer to home while helping reduce pressure on general practice and urgent care services. Most importantly, the presentation will provide practical learning and tools to support pharmacy contractors preparing for the national rollout of Community Pharmacy Prescribing through the 2026/27 Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework.
