Prescribing in community pharmacy: making better patient care happen with General Practices
The NHS is moving towards a model of neighbourhood health in which care is delivered closer to home, around people and communities rather than organisational boundaries. Community pharmacy has a crucial role in making that shift real. The future therefore should not be seen as GP versus pharmacist, or practice versus pharmacy. It should be about a connected neighbourhood workforce, sharing responsibility for population health. Community pharmacy prescribing can become an important part of that transformation, provided we design it around patients, clinical need and collaboration rather than professional boundaries.
